This Easy Homemade Paleo Chocolate is so delicious and so simple to make. Four ingredients and a few minutes is all it takes.
This chocolate was made specifically for my sister. She loves chocolate, like love loves it, but she wasn't loving all the weird ingredients in the store bought ones or the price of the "healthier" ones. I knew it had to be simple to make, so I tried and it has become her favorite! The first batch was a test for sweetness, then I did some adjusting and now it's perfect. These are sweetened just the right amount if you like dark chocolate. If you like your chocolate a little sweeter then use a little more honey.
I just love the size of the hearts. A few are perfect for a craving. These are dairy free, soy free, naturally sweetened and everything in them is good for you. You can feel good eating these delicious treats. The hearts in the above picture are coconut which is why you can see the little specs. The other flavors are smoother.
Simple and Healthy Chocolate
I'm not claiming to be a health expert, but here are some health benefits of the ingredients.
- Cacao powder: this is not the same as cocoa powder. Cacao is full of vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants.
- Coconut oil- strengthens immune system, helps prevent wrinkles, improves bone health, rich in lauric acid that helps maintain blood sugar and cholesterol levels, and helps heal infections. (Many other benefits not listed)
- Honey- alleviates allergies, cough suppressant, and is a sleep aid.
Make them once and you'll be hooked. You can play around with flavors, adjust the sweetness, and make fun shapes.
They do need to be stored in the fridge or freezer because they melt at room temperature. Once they're hard, I just pop them into a container and keep them in the freezer. It works perfect.
Here are the molds I used for the hearts. They're my favorite and one batch fills both molds perfectly.
I also got a letter mold and I had a little fun playing with them. 🙂
I am so glad I'm able to make my sister a healthy treat that she loves. And I love how quick and easy they are! Here are some more chocolate treats to try:

- Vegan Paleo Double Chocolate Pie

OMG, I just made these, sooooooo yummy!!! I don't know what the difference is between cocoa powder and cacao powder, I had Trader Joe's unsweetened cocoa powder so that's what I used and YUM YUM YUM YUM is all I can say!!! Thank you for this wonderful, easy, junk free recipe.
Jessica DeMay says
Hey Shirani- thanks so much!! I'm so glad you tried them and loved them! The only difference is cocoa doesn't have all the health benefits as cacao, but they're interchangeable. Thanks so much for the feedback! 🙂
Rachel Kennedy says
Hi just had a question regarding the coconut oil, is it in a solid form for the measure or liquid? Just so I know if I need to melt it first then measure it out. Thank you
Jessica DeMay says
Hi Rachel! Great question- it's liquid form. I'll update the recipe. I hope you try it, I think you'll love it! 🙂
Marsha says
Where do we get cacao powder? I've never heard of it. I am also interested in the calorie count.
Jessica DeMay says
Hi Marsha! You can find cacao powder at any health food store, but I usually buy mine on Amazon. It's usually by the baking section at the store. Again, I don't know the calorie count because we don't count calories, but feel free to plug it into any nutrition calculator online- I know My Fitness Pal is a good one. I hope you try them- they are so good and so easy!
Deana says
Cacao powder can be bought at any health food store and now in supermarkets like Tesco’s and Aldi
amy says
I love these!! Can you let me know how many calories are in a batch? 🙂 thank you xx
Jessica DeMay says
Thanks Amy! I'm actually not sure because we don't count calories. Feel free to plug the ingredients into a nutrition calculator online though if you want to know.
Kelly @ The Nourishing Home says
LOVE these! The little hearts mold is so adorable! Now all that's required is restraining myself from eating the entire batch. LOL! Yum! xo

Cheyanne @ No Spoon Necessary says
Oh my goodness, I love these lil chocolate lovelies! So great they are full of deliciousness with no crazy additives! I'm allergic to cocoa, but the hubs would go Nuts over these! Pinned! Thanks for sharing the yum and Cheers! 🙂
Jessica DeMay says
Thanks, Cheyanne! Yes, your husband would love these! What a bummer you're allergic to cocoa- I've actually been brainstorming ones without cocoa. We'll see if they turn out. Thanks for pinning 🙂

Carob is a great substitute! It's a little more 'fruity' than cocoa.
Nicoletta @sugarlovespices says
They are the absolute next thing I want to try! Love chocolate but, like your sister, I don't like all the other weird ingredients you find in store-bought chocolate bars or chips, Thanks for sharing!
Jessica DeMay says
You're welcome! Let me know if you try them and how you like them. The additions really make them delicious!

Sarah Williams says
OMG! I am the sister this chocolate was made for! It is AMAZING!! Seriously the best chocolate I have ever had. So thrilled that I can get my dark chocolate fix in, in a healthy way! Thanks for hooking me up, sis! <3
Jessica DeMay says
You're very welcome! I'm so glad you like them <3
Soraya says
I have a question...do they lack that 'creamy','milky' taste since there is no form of dairy liquid?
Also, can they last long outside the refridgerator?
Jessica DeMay says
Hi Soraya- they don't lack that at all. I would suggest using the highly amount of sweetener if this is the first time trying it because it's more like dark chocolate. But it melts in your mouth and is so good. Even my mom loves them and she doesn't eat paleo. Hope you try it!
Nicole Bradburn says
Hi wanted to ask few questions
I brought 100% cocoa dark chocolate once it's bit too much for me
I mean I enjoy the ones that are 70-80% and even had 90% once which the 90% was bit better but I like bitter sour taste
It's so hard to find 100% icalways thought there was none until I had a looking research but you can get it on eBay &Amazon
What I wanted to ask is instead of using cocoa powder could I use the chocolate because it's 100% it's like using the powder
Or could I melt it and put some powder in it to make the dark chocolate?
I don't like coconut oil in the dark chocolate had it once didn't go well
the taste together for me was no good but I do like both just not together
can I use a different oil?
I enjoy nuts and well I don't see any dark chocolate with nuts done losts of research when I find dark chocolate with nuts
it's only between 40-56% cocoa which frankly it's milk chocolate and milk chocolate colour and taste
So if I added some nuts in your ingredients would it be ok???
Jessica DeMay says
Hi Nicole- yes, 100% cocoa is not very tasty! Here is the brand I love and buy when I don't feel like making my own:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N6WEKY3/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=jaysbakingm07-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B01N6WEKY3&linkId=8101790168f17e1b9acfb7cd05ba14af
I linked the variety pack which comes with a cashew milk chocolate, a dark chocolate, and a dark almond chocolate. They are sweetened with coconut sugar and so delicious!
You can try melting the chocolate down and adding some sweetener. You may not need the coconut oil then. I wouldn't suggest another oil, just use refined which has no coconut taste. Yes, you can add nuts.
Nicole Bradburn says
Thank you! Do much very great full
