These Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs are quick, simple, and come out perfect every time! A quick breakfast or snack that is healthy and tasty. Made in 4 minutes!
I love my Instant Pot for many reasons and this is definitely one of the main ones. No overcooked eggs, no losing half of the egg trying to get the peel off, and so much quicker to make! This is the only way I make eggs now.
How to make Instant Pot Eggs
Put the rack in the bottom of the Instant Pot and fill with 1 cup of water. Place as many eggs as you can and you can even make more than one layer. I can usually get 16 large eggs. Close it, turn it on manual, make sure the valve is closed and reduce the time to 4 minutes.
Once they're done, hit cancel and release the pressure. You want to do this right away or the eggs will keep cooking. Get them in a bowl of cold water and let them cool for 5 minutes.
Easiest Eggs to Peel
You'll want to peel them while they're still warm. 5 minutes is perfect cooling time.
These actually aren't hard boiled eggs- they're steamed. And apparently that makes all the difference because I have never peeled an egg so easily in my life. I usually peel them one handed because I'm holding a baby with my other arm. I'm so glad they're so easy!
Storing Hard Boiled Eggs
Perfect every time! They are ready to be eaten as-is or used in a recipe. Store them covered in the fridge for up to 5 days.
You will love, love, love how easy these eggs are! The yolks are perfect, not overdone and creamy and there is no green ring around the yolk. These are great for snacking, egg salad, Paleo Chipotle Bacon Deviled Eggs, or any other deviled egg recipe.

Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs
Ingredients
- 16 large eggs
- 1 cup water
Instructions
- Place the wire rack in the bottom of the Instant Pot. Pour in 1 cup of water.
- Place the raw eggs on the rack and fit them in tightly. I can usually fit 16, but that will depend on the size of your eggs.
- Close the Instant Pot, make sure the valve is closed, and hit the manual button. Reduce the time to 4 minutes and let them cook. (high pressure)
- As soon as the timer goes off, hit cancel and release the pressure. Leaving them in there will result in them overcooking.
- Transfer them to a large bowl (I use a serving spoon) and cover with cold water. Let cool for 5 minutes.
- Peel while still warm and rinse any shell pieces off.
- Use immediately or store in the fridge.

Wow, what can't the instant pot do. I must be missing out, as I have not bought one yet. they sound pretty multi-purpose though.

Allen Bennett says
I haven't got one yet, but about the only thing I think they wouldn't be able to do is crisp up the shin on chicken.
Jessica DeMay says
I think you may be right, Allen!

I've been thinking about getting an Instant Pot, and I think you just sold me on it! I love how easy this is, I can never get me hard boiled eggs to peel without loosing half of the egg.
Jessica DeMay says
Yes, I was with you on that. It was always a gamble if they would peel or not! You would love the IP if you got it 🙂
Dotty says
I just boil them in a pot on the stove for about 10 min and they are easy to peel when cool, even when refrigerated. Very easy and no running under the faucet to peel them.
Real Food with Dana says
Freaking GENIUS, Jessica! I don't have an instant pot, but if I did, I would use it for this all the time!

Thanks, Dana! You are missing out 😉

I love boiled eggs in the morning but haven't been able to make perfect boiled eggs - sometimes over cooked , other times under cooked. I am really looking forward to try this instant pot hard boiled egg method/recipe. Thanks so much for sharing and love your blog !

I love my IP eggs! I do 2 dozen every Sunday for my family throughout the week! It took me FOREVER to get the right time down though. It seems so many people do the "6-6-6" method and it always made mine SO overdone. I kept bringing the cook time down and they still seemed over done until I went to using the Low Pressure setting - do you know what that means at all? Do different IP's run differently? I am still so new to it really. So for mine I do 4 minutes on low pressure. NPR 4 minutes. And then into cold water and they peel perfectly and are cooked just like your images!
Jessica DeMay says
I do know what that means! 🙂 I always leave mine on high, but I was having the same issue as you- overcooked eggs. That's why I cancel it right away and don't do any NPR. Do you do 24 all at once? I'm afraid to stack them!

Who would have thought that you could use an instant pot for hard-boiled eggs? You just made my life so much easier! Thank you!
Jessica DeMay says
You're welcome, Halle! The instant pot does it all 🙂
Sonya says
Hi! I'm curious as to what brand of insta pot do you use?? Wanting to buy one!
Jessica DeMay says
Hi Sonya- Instant Pot is actually the brand of pressure cooker. I have the 7-in-1, but don't ever use the yogurt maker so the 6-in-1 would work as well.
